The Pacific Coast Science and Learning Center

Point Reyes National Seashore is a destination for millions of poeple each year that come to relax and explore this national park, but it is also a destination for scientists who come to study the plants, animals and ecosystems of the park.

National Parks and science go together like peanut butter and jelly, though I’ll let you decide which is sweeter. One mission of the National Park Service is to conserve nature. In order to do what is best for the plants and animals here in the park, the people here need to know what the best things, called management practices, are for the ecosystems here.

Creating collaborations between researchers and the park is one of the main goals of the Pacific Coast Science and Learning Center.

The staff at the Learning Center help scientists do research in the park, and then they pass that information along to the Park. That way, the park staff at Point Reyes are following cutting edge research recommendations to maintain and improve management of the park’s resources.

The other mission of the Learning Center is to teach people about the science that is being done in the park. In a flash that Descartes would be proud of, this blog appeared.

Science, like lunch, is always best when shared.
